So Vlado Kreslin opens tomorrow night at Križanke in Ljubljana, and I’m stuck here in the heat in Texas. I’d be much better off if I were at the concert in Ljubljana with my two cameras and my DVR, soaking up information and atmosphere and lots of cviček (wine) into the wee hours at some gostilna (tavern), maybe even with Vlado and friends.
Instead I fix a cup of coffee-- my first in two weeks. (And therein hangs a sad and curious tale dealing with milk, allergies and suppurating boils. You don’t want to know.) The milk’s homogenization has gone tits up and the coffee maker smells like cat piss. My Mr Coffee is older than Joe DiMaggio, so who knows? After all this time, maybe it’s supposed to smell.
Or maybe the cat crept in and -- no, won’t even go there. Nope, nada, ne.
Notwithstanding the curdled cream on top, I take a sip. Smile. The milk’s not sour and the coffee tastes great. I’m not out of luck yet. I’m just out of Ljubljana.
*** Vlado Kreslin with Mali Bogovi and Beltinška Banda, and the Mary Coughlin Trio will be at Festival Ljubljana, Križanke on Thursday, August 18.
